Subject: Spindle Encoder Lathe Threading
Hi Tom,
The Mori Seiki conversion is nearly complete,
Z and X axis are working just fine, tool changer even better.
But i have hit a brick wall with setting up the Spindle encoder with mach3 for thread cutting on the lathe. My spindle setup is an 8 speed magnetic clutch gearbox with Heidenhein Rotory encoder 500 count connected to the main spindle.
I have conected the encoder to channel 3 and getting to count +,-.
How would i set it a c pro to communicate with mach.

Regards
Gordon

Hi Gordon,

If you configure the Mach3 Dynomotion Plugin Parameters for the Spindle then the actual speed should show up in the Mach3 Screens.  You shouldn't need a C program for that.  Just some KFLOP Axis configured for Encoder 3 as input.

Do you plan on controlling the speed (and Gears?) from Mach3+KFLOP?  if so what is the interface?

Regards
TK

Hi Tom,
I'm using Custom macros in mach3/kflop outputs to activate the clutches example:M800 will active the sequence off relays to setup the clutches to = 800 rpm.M5 will swith all relays off and including spindle. It was the most simple way of doing gear change that i could come up with,Not much of a computer programmer just an old fashion fitter and turner hacking my way thru.

Regards Gordon

Hi Gordon,

So you don't have or need any speed control other than switching gears for selectable fixed speeds?

Are you saying that the M Codes are all working correctly?

The next step would be to get the Current measured speed showing up properly in Mach3.

TK

Hi Tom,
Yes that's what im after,I need to sync the encoder thru Kflop to mach
The ratio is 4:1 per rev so 1 rev=4000 counts on encoder.
How would go about sync the two.
P.S The M codes work fine as long as i inc M5 before gear change on next tool, It would be a mess if the clutches were engaged at the same time.
Regards
Gordon
